2 commit 'suicide' in capital
A woman and a college student allegedly committed suicide in Mohakhali and Kafrul area of the capital yesterday.
The body of Tandra Rani Dey, 25, wife of Jewel Halder, an employee of a private television channel, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Mohakhali.
Quoting Jewel, Moniruzzaman, sub-inspector of Banani Police Station, said after returning home from his office at about 1:00am, he quarrelled with his wife over a trifling matter.
“After quarrelling they went to sleep. When Jewel woke up at about 6:00am, he found his wife's body hanging from the ceiling fan. Later, he informed police about the incident,” the SI said quoting the victim's husband.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, college student Mahfuza Anam Mita, 18, allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Kafrul area Thursday night.
The victim was the daughter of Mehedi Hasan, warrant officer of Air Force, and a second year student of BAF Shaheen School and College.
Quoting relatives of Mita, Jakir Hossain Mallik, sub-inspector of Kafrul Police Station, said Mita's mother rebuked her, as she could not achieve expected result in a pre-test examination.
“Overly emotional Mita locked herself in the bedroom and hanged herself from a ceiling fan around 10:00pm. Guardians of the deceased rushed her to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead,” he added.
A case was filed in this connection.
