Oct 22 as National Road Safety Day demanded
Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) yesterday urged the prime minister to declare October 22 as the National Road Safety Day.
Addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity, NISCHA Chairman and film actor Ilias Kanchan made the request.
He said the NISCHA will form a human chain before Jatiya Press Club tomorrow and following it will submit a memorandum to the prime minister in support of the demand.
The NISCHA started a social movement against road accident on October 22, 1993 when Kanchan's wife Jahanara Kanchan died in a road accident. The organisation has been observing October 22 as the National Road Safety Day since 1998.
