A total of 475 teachers of University Teachers' Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) yesterday urged the authorities concerned to ensure congenial educational atmosphere at all universities in the country. In a statement, they also demanded that the authorities ensure security of all students on the campuses so that they can attend classes and sit for examinations. "We are concerned as a planned conspiracy is on to destroy the country's higher education system as well as creativities and talents of the students," reads the statement. They said they were surprised at a recent incident of attack by a student organisation on some students in presence of the law enforcing agencies on the Dhaka University campus. The university administration failed to ensure minimum security of the students. Activists of a student body with the help of the administration and police took an attacking stance, the UTAB teachers said. They termed the statement of DU vice chancellor about the incident ridiculous and puzzling. About the recent crisis of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), they said the crisis has not been resolved yet due to the government's rigid stance and stubbornness. Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, Prof Tahmina Akter, Prof Abdul Aziz, Prof Khalilur Rahman, and Prof Ashraful Islam Chowdhury are among the signatories to the statement.
