PM takes a jab at Dr Kamal
Referring to eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday in parliament said there are some leaders who “are friends in good times only” and sing only in spring.
She said this in response to a lawmaker's query whether the prime minister would publish, in television and newspapers, the corruption of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
Ruling AL lawmaker Fazilatunnessa Bappi raised the question quoting a statement of Dr Kamal Hossain who, according to Bappi, said Koko was convicted of corruption in courts in France, Germany and Canada.
Kamal gave the government an ultimatum of 48 hours to publish all documents related to Koko's corruption or he will take steps to publish those, Bappi said citing a report of an online news web portal.
In response, Hasina, in a satire gesture, asked why Dr Kamal is so excited suddenly and why he wants to publish the documents.
“He should know that the government is working against corruption. The Anti-Corruption Commission has been working independently which resulted in Koko's corruption being revealed,” she said.
She said the corruption was supposed to be detected during the past caretaker government during which Kamal was the major adviser.
On broadcasting the documents, the premier said it depends on them.
“I do not understand why they did not publicise the documents giving due importance,” she said.
“However, I thank him and urge him to publish them,” Hasina added.
