Nat'l income tax day today

The National Income Tax Day will be observed in the country today to create awareness about income tax and encourage people to pay tax regularly. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will honour 360 taxpayers with certificates, crests and tax cards this year. Marking the Income Tax Day, the NBR will bring out colourful rallies in seven divisional cities. A rally will be brought out from the NBR office around 8:00am, and it will parade important streets stretching Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, High Court and Matsya Bhaban areas in the capital. Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, prominent singers, film actors, theatre personalities and sportspersons will also join the rally. Meanwhile, HT Imam, prime minister's adviser on public administration, will be the chief guest in the inaugural session of the weeklong Income Tax fair to be held in divisional cities and districts from tomorrow. The fair in seven divisional cities will continue till September 22. Beginning on the same day, similar fairs in the 11 districts -- Mymensingh, Gazipur, Faridpur, Comilla, Noakhali, Jessore, Kushtia, Patuakhali, Dinajpur, Pabna and Bogra -- will continue till September 20. Certificates and Tax Identification Number (TIN) will be given to the new taxpayers through the fairs.
