AL-led govt surpassed BNP-Jamaat in graft
Says CPB president
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Manzurul Ahsan Khan yesterday alleged that the present Awami League-led grand alliance government surpassed the last BNP-Jamaat-led four-party government in corruption.
“Hawa Bhaban was known to all during the BNP-Jamaat government's rule for corruption. But now almost all of the residences of lawmakers and ministers of the ruling Awami League-led government have been turned into places of corruption,” he added.
The CPB president made the remarks at a rally to inaugurate the 10th convention of CPB's Dhaka metropolitan unit in front of Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
After getting involved in corruption in the share market and Padma bridge construction, the government was now looting state money from Sonali Bank through Hall-Mark, he said.
Manzurul further added that Bangladesh was no longer a democracy as the state was being run by police and different intelligence agencies.
He urged CPB leaders and activists to work sincerely while maintaining the revolutionary democratic practices in the party so that CPB could emerge as an alternative force for the masses against the two major political parties.
CPB Dhaka metropolitan unit President Comrade Abdul Kader chaired the rally while some central and the unit leaders also spoke.
The two-day conference began with a 10-point demand, including immediate polls to the Dhaka city corporations, decentralisation of the administration to reduce the population pressure in Dhaka, implementation of Rajuk's Detailed Area Plan and a stop to murders and forced disappearances.
The conference ends today with a call to establish an alternative political platform to establish democracy and socialism.
