Hall-Mark Scam
Police need no court order to recover money
Says Dr Kamal
Eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday said police could recover the state money from Hall-Mark Group without any court order or warrant if they wanted.
Thousands of crores of state money has been captured by organisations like Hall-Mark, and this money has to be refunded to their depositors for restoration of the people's confidence and establishing the rule of law, he said.
Speaking at a roundtable on “Economic Situation and Public Interest”, the veteran lawyer once again expressed his fear that he himself might be disappeared anytime for telling the truth.
“This may be my last chance, but we have to throw away the fear of telling truths," he told the programme organised by weekly magazine the Shaptahik at the capital's Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs.
Dr Kamal also said he had documents that Khaleda Zia's son Arafat Rahman Koko had been convicted by foreign courts, and the Singapore government had confiscated five million US dollars that he had misappropriated.
But, he said, attacking BNP and its leaders with abusive language had to be stopped as BNP was a major political party.
