Oil company fined, water purifying plant sealed off

A mobile court in Chittagong city yesterday fined an edible oil marketing firm and sealed off a water purifying plant for violating BSTI rules. The oil marketing company "Nahar Enterprise" was fined Tk 50,000 for not having a licence from Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI), packaging oil in bottles of unauthorised sizes and not putting expiry and manufacturing dates and price tags on the bottles. The water purifying company "J and M Enterprise", a sister concern of Nahar Enterprise, was sealed off for not carrying out the purification activities in a hygienic condition and using BSTI monogram illegally. Both the companies are located in Bara Majhi area. Joynal Abdin, executive magistrate of Chittagong City Corporation, led the mobile court.
