10-Truck Arms Haul
Prosecution witness cross examined
Md Alauddin, in-charge of a police outpost in Chittagong and a prosecution witness of 10-truck arms haul cases, on Tuesday told a Chittagong court that a higher court had granted him bail in another arms case in 2007 that was later cancelled.
He said the bail was cancelled after he identified former NSI director Major (retd) Liakat Hossain, who was present at CUFL Jetty when the smuggled arms and ammunition were being offloaded there on April 2, 2004.
Alauddin was replying to queries of a defence lawyer as cross examination of the witness began on the day.
He is one of the policemen who rushed to the CUFL jetty when the smuggled arms and ammunition were being offloaded there.
During cross examination held before the judge of Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 SM Mojibur Rahman, Alauddin said although he witnessed the arms being offloaded at the jetty, he did not arrest anyone on that day, said court sources.
When asked how he came to know about the arms offloading, Alauddin said a habilder, Golam Rasul, had informed him over telephone.
Alauddin also said the first investigation officer of the arms haul case, the then officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station, did not formally interrogate him.
