Jewellery shop looted in capital

Unidentified criminals yesterday looted eight tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 22,000 in cash from a jewellery shop in the capital's Hazaribagh and injured one of its employees. The injured, Anwar Hossain, 31, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition with several injuries to his body. Ali Hossain, owner of Al Amin Jewellers, said his son Al Amin opened the door of the shop around 8:00am and found Anwar injured and unconscious inside the shop, located at Charak Ghata in Hazaribagh. DMCH sources said Anwar received stab injuries to his head and shoulder while many of his teeth were broken as his face was struck by a heavy object. Sub-Inspector Sayeed Ibne Siddique of Hazaribagh Police Station said Anwar used to stay in the shop along with Babu, brother-in-law of Ali Hossain, who has been missing since the incident yesterday. Police suspect Babu's involvement in the robbery, the SI said.
