Proper training of drivers demanded

The government should take more steps to raise awareness on road accidents and train up the drivers to avert such catastrophes, said former director general of Bangla Academy Prof Mansur Musa yesterday. Reminiscing on late media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk, former Chief Executive Officer of ATN News, he said tragic deaths caused by road accidents were unexpected, creating vacuums in the affected families and the nation. Prof Mansur was addressing a memorial meeting organised by Bangladesh Ganosangskriti Dal, a platform for cultural movements, on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the capital marking the 53rd birth anniversary of Mishuk Munier. Mishuk Munier's untimely death deprived the country of ways to enrich the media through the use of his extraordinary talents, said Prof Mansur. Poet Reza Sarowari said Mishuk Munier was an asset of the nation because he had paved the way for modern journalism, especially in electronic media, using the latest technologies. Noted filmmaker Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier and three others died in a road crash on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj on August 13, 2011.
