Two-day int'l training workshop ends in Ctg

Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Professor Anwarul Azim Arif yesterday said bioinformatics and computational biology have brought a new dimension to biotechnology. The two areas will facilitate quality research in medicine, agriculture and microbiology fields, the VC said as chief guest at the closing session of a two-day international training workshop “Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in South Asian Perspectives” organised on the university campus. “As bioinformatics and computational biology are the latest developments in the field of biological science, the workshop will help researchers in carrying out their work effectively,” Prof Arif added. Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB) of CU, in association with The Daily Star, organised the closing session of the workshop where 100 students of the university participated. Dr Khan Tawhid Osman, dean of Biological Science faculty of CU, among others spoke at the session. The inaugural session of the workshop was held at University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC).
