4 killed, 16 hurt in road crashes

Four people were killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Kishoreganj and Bhola on Wednesday and yesterday. A correspondent from Bagerhat reports, two drivers were killed and 15 other passengers injured when two buses collided head-on in Raripara area of Kachua upazila yesterday morning. The deceased were Shukur Ali Chowdhury, 42, son of Sirajul Chowdhury of Fakirhat upazila, and Abul Bashar, 48, son of Abul Kashem of sadar upazila of the district. Police said a Dhaka-bound bus from Pirojpur hit another one from the opposite direction in the area around 8:15am, killing the two drivers instantly and injuring 15 others. The injured were rushed to Kachua Upazila Health Complex and Bagerhat Sadar Hospital. A correspondent from Kishoreganj reports, a beggar was killed and her husband injured as a tractor ran them over in front of Junglebari Women's College in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj yesterday morning. The deceased was Hena Akter, 50. The two were taken to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital where Hena was declared dead. In Bhola, a Chittagong-bound coal-laden truck from Benapole plunged into a ditch beside Bheduria Ferry Ghat Road in sadar upazila on Wednesday night, killing Chan Miah, 45, of Benapole, on the spot.
