Cop held for snatching attempt
A mob beat up a police constable in the capital's Mirpur yesterday while he allegedly tried to snatch Tk 5,500 from a youth.
Mirpur police rescued Constable Mostafizur Rahman, 37, of Special Branch (SB) and took him to Mirpur Police Station.
Later they arrested Mostafiz as a case was filed against him by the victim.
The arrested policeman however denied the allegation of snatching.
The victim, Nasiruddin Ahmed, a bus staff, said Mostafiz tried to snatch the money from him near Mirpur University College.
Mostafiz approached him when he and his girlfriend were having a quarrel and started hustling him towards the police station, he said.
Nasir said near Mirpur University College, the policeman snatched the money and tried to flee, but people caught him as he shouted for help.
