Wife killed for dowry
A housewife and mother of two children was killed for dowry allegedly by her husband at Argarahut of Daipukuria union in Shibganj upazila yesterday, police and victim's family sources said.
The victim is Tajkera Khatun, 35, wife of Habibur Rahman. They were married about 15 years ago. After the marriage, Habibur Rahman demanded dowry amounting to Tk 5,000 from his wife. As her family could not fulfill his demand, he started torturing her. On the fateful night, he allegedly tortured wife for whole night. She died at around 7 next morning. Police recovered the body.
Victim's husband and in-laws fled after filing of a case with Shibganj police station by Abdus Sobhan, father of the ill-fated woman.
