Nation united for war crimes trial except BNP-Jamaat
Says Matia Chowdhury
The whole nation, except the BNP-Jamaat people, is united for completion of the war crimes trial, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said yesterday.
She said the people would not spare those who were trying to foil the trial, guided by Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI.
Matia alleged that the BNP was calling protest programmes to save the war criminals rather than to restore the caretaker government system and asserted that this government would finish the trial and execute the verdicts within its tenure.
The minister said this while addressing a discussion organised by Bangladesh Krishak League in the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan.
State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam said Jamaat-e-Islami had brought "observers" from a Turkey-based organisation spending huge money to foil the trial.
His remarks came as a 14-member Turkish team visited the tribunal Monday.
Senior AL leader Mohammad Nasim said the AL must finish the trial, as it was the only way to its victory in the next election.
