Arrest warrant against Kishoreganj municipal chairman for bribery

A court in Kishoreganj yesterday issued arrest warrant against Kishoreganj municipal chairman and BNP leader Abu Taher Miah who took over charges of the municipality 10 days ago after getting bail in a bribery case. Judiciary Magistrate Abu Taher Md. Sayeed also ordered Kishoreganj Sadar police station to record a bribery case against Abu Taher Miah. Court sources said, master roll employee of the municipality Md. Humayun Kabir filed a bribery case against Taher alleging that he took Tk 2 lakh from him assuring him to regularise his job as inspector of street lights. But the municipal chairman did not keep his word. In another bank forgery case filed with Kishoreganj Sadar police station by Md. Shamsul Huda on February 19, police submitted charge sheet to the court of Magistrate Abu Taher Md. Sayeed on February 2. The court accepted it on Tuesday. Huda is owner of Duha Motor Engineering. The court issued arrest order as investigation officer (IO) Md. Badrul in the charge sheet mentioned that Taher was absconding. In the case, complainant Shamsul Huda said, Taher issued two Pubali Bank cheques for Tk 1 lakh in his favour on October 1, 2006. Huda was a contractor of the municipality. But municipal chairman asked Huda to put his signatures on the back of the cheques, assuring him of giving the money. But Taher took away the money. Taher was caught by joint forces on October 9 last year while he was taking bribe. He was produced before a court, which sent him to jail. Few days ago, Taher got bail and took over charge of the municipality on February 26 as per an order of local government ministry.
