2 to die, 7 get life-term for killing schoolboy

District and Sessions Judge's Court in Sirajganj sentenced two persons to death and seven others to life-term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in Chowhali upazila of Sirajganj district in 1998. The death penalty awardees are Joynal Abedin of Rehaisuriber village and Mirza Tareque of Dakkhin Khaspukuria village in the upazila. Those who got life-term are Kamal Uddin, Habibur Rahman, Atikur Rahman, Sadekur Rahman, Israfil, Mokhlesur Rahman and Mintu -- all from Khaspukuria village. Shohel Rana, 18, a class ten student of Khaspukuria High School, was picked up from his house on December 14, 1998 and killed as he protested teasing of a girl.
