Reinstatement of BBA dean at USTC demanded
Around 300 students of the University of Science and Technology of Chittagong (USTC) yesterday locked several academic and administrative buildings of the university, keeping the pro-vice chancellor and several teachers confined inside for over six hours.
The students of the BBA department were demanding for reappointment of Associate Professor Surajit Sarbabidya as the department's dean, said USTC Registrar Prof Shams-Ud-Doha.
The students started the demonstration on USTC campus in the port city around 8:00am, also locking the main gate and staging a sit-in before the administrative building.
The students withdrew their sit-in around 2:00pm after USTC authorities assured them of holding an academic council today on the matter and conveying their demand to the vice chancellor, who is now in Dhaka, said university sources. Surajit's tenure as the BBA department's dean expired last year, sources added.
