A group of workers and employees of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have confined its acting managing director AM Mosaddique Ahmed to his office room at Biman headquarters in the capital to press home their seven-point demands. The demands include withdrawal of charge sheets of two departmental cases against Biman Sramik League and CBA president Moshiqur Rahman; implementation of a new organogram; raise of salaries and meal allowances. Chanting slogans in favour of their demands, they surrounded the office till filing of this report at 11:15pm yesterday. Earlier, more than a hundred staff of the national flag carrier started laying a siege outside the office room of Mosaddique on the 2nd floor of Balaka Bhaban from 2:30pm, said sources at the Biman. The cases against Moshiqur were filed around six months back for threatening Biman's Company Affairs Manager Fazlur Rahman and for talking to media. The Biman authorities formed an investigation committee after filing of the cases. The committee recently submitted charge sheets against Moshiqur to the authorities, they said. Earlier in March last year, some staff of the Biman staged demonstrations under the banner of "Biman Bachao Oikya Parishad" to press home their several demands including resignation of its chairman and board members.
