Chinese vice governor terms Bangladesh 'role model'
Visiting Vice Governor of Yunnan Province of China Gao Shuxun lauded the economic development of Bangladesh and said that developing countries have a lot to learn from Bangladesh.
He also termed Bangladesh as a "role model" of development.
Gao Shuxun said this when he called on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her office yesterday afternoon.
Thanking the Yunnan Vice Governor for his comments, Dipu Moni said the people of Bangladesh take pride in socioeconomic development in China.
Terming Yunnan as the gateway of South East Asia, she sought Gao's assistance for speedy implementation of Kunming initiative.
Dipu Moni also requested him for more investment from Yunnan as well as narrowing of the trade gap by increasing import from Bangladesh.
The foreign minister stated that the present government is committed to bringing people to people contacts ever closer.
The Chinese delegation is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of FBCCI to publicise the First China-South Asian Countries Expo to be held in Kunming in June this year. Gao informed that Bangladesh would be both Country of Honor of the Expo and Chair of the Business Forum.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ji Jun and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local Chinese Embassy were present during the meeting.
