The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord's complete implementation is imperative for lasting peace and improvement of socio-economic condition in the CHT region, said Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma yesterday. Fifteen years into the signing, the accord's main provisions still remain unimplemented due to insincerity of the successive governments, Jyotirindra, popularly known as Santu Larma, told the inaugural of an “Entrepreneur's Fair” as chief guest. The delay has led to mistrust between the government and indigenous people and is causing the CHT Regional Council and three hill district councils to remain dysfunctional. CHT is economically lagging behind other districts, said the CHT Regional Council chairman. “We can play a very significant role if the government creates an opportunity for the improvement of socio-economic condition and lifestyle of hilly people though the accord's complete implementation,” said Santu. The fair, organised by Parbatya Uddokta Parishad with support from Mercantile Bank Ltd and being held at Rajbari gymnasium compound in Rangamati town, will continue till January 18.
