Chandpur journo sent to jail for 'extortion'
A journalist who was arrested here on Wednesday on charge of extortion was sent to jail after being produced before a court yesterday, court sources said.
RTV and Dainik Amader Samoy correspondent Abdul Awal Rubel,35, was caught red-handed by police at a local restaurant while taking Tk 8,000 as illegal toll from Chhatra League leader Jafar Iqbal Munna, also a contractor. He was sent to jail on production before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, court sources said.
Police said Rubel was demanding Tk 50,000 as toll from Munna for the last few days.
