Case against Fakhrul
Indictment hearing deffered
A Dhaka court for the sixth time yesterday deferred until March 10 the hearing on charge framing against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 28 others in a blast case.
Meantime, Supreme Court Chamber Judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain yesterday upheld a High Court order that on January 21 granted six months' bail to Fakhrul in a case filed for blasting cocktails in the city's Motijheel area during a road blockade on December 9 last year.
Shahbagh police filed the case against the 29 for aiding and abetting bombings inside the Secretariat during the opposition's hartal in April last year.
The court passed the order after lawyers for Fakhrul and nine of the others submitted a petition to adjourn the hearing as they could not appear before the court.
Fakhrul and BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu could not appear as they have been in custody in two separate cases while the other eight were busy with parliament sessions, defence lawyers told the court.
The other 19 accused, including Khandaker Musharraf Hossain and Gayeswar Chandra Roy, were in the dock.
