Violence against women has taken worst form
Says NHRC chief
The chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) yesterday urged all to resist violence against women, which, he said, had taken its worst form now.
“The kinds of violence being perpetrated against women have made us deeply concerned. We have to fight it,†Prof Mizanur Rahman told the first batch of law graduates of BGC Trust University Bangladesh in Chittagong city.
He said, “We dream of that Bangladesh for which 30 lakh people sacrificed their lives, we dream of that Bangladesh for which we had been subjected to oppression.
“This dream may come true anytime, if we adhere to it.†When this dream will be a reality, only then we can claim we have become independent, he added.
As chief guest, Prof Mizanur handed over crests and certificates to 42 graduates, who have completed a two years' programme at the university. The graduation ceremony was held at a city hotel.
