Private university

They say Bangladesh is a poverty stricken country. They say that nearly ninety percent of the population cannot have even two decent meals daily. Now, there is a lot more to what they said, but let's concentrate on just a few for the moment. Some say that basic education is the road to better life, which others agree to and decide to modify and say that basic education is the core of our business, and we will not let go any opportunity to earn the cash that will move us one step closer to being Bill Gates!! Now that's a high ambition. And of course, to fulfil one's ambition, there are two ways to go about it; one, work for it diligently, and two (if you are short of time), make others work while you take their money to fulfil your ambition. The latter seems to be the most popular means of fulfilling that ambition for almost all the private universities. Did I say almost? Campus development fee is a term known by all people associated with paying the damn fee. In fact, when you chip in Tk 3,500 every four months with no development in sight, it's a term that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Lab fee is Tk 1,000 per student, for which we get one lousy printer to print our projects and any other required papers. That's right, one printer, for not 10 or 20 students, but almost 7,000 students. No colour printer though, because it's way too expensive to maintain. After all, multiply 1,000 into 5,000, and if you still can't maintain one colour printer, God only knows where the money goes. So if anyone tells you Bangladesh is poor and that we have no goal, scoff at their face!
