Agri university in Rajshahi sought
Lawmaker Fazle Hossain Badsha yesterday demanded that the government construct an agricultural university in Rajshahi and implement North Rajshahi Irrigation Project for the Barind environment's conservation.
Criticising the finance minister, he said the national budget was “not reflecting an agriculture-friendly government imageâ€. “I did not hear the finance minister saying any word about farmers in parliament,†he said.
The lawmaker also demanded 50 percent subsidy on agricultural inputs, formation of agricultural courts to resist adulteration of agricultural inputs and a land policy to protect farmlands.
He was addressing a “People's Parliamentâ€, organised by District Public Policy Forum with supported from USAID, Ukaid and The Asia Foundation, at Water Development Board premises in Rajshahi.
At the three-hour programme, the lawmaker and Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hannan answered queries of over 100 farmers from Rajshahi, Naogaon, Chapainawabganj and Natore.
The questions involved farmland destruction by brick kilns, increasing agricultural input prices, fertiliser and pesticide adulteration, and rapid groundwater decrease.
