RU students vandalise bus to protest harassment
A group of Rajshahi University students vandalised an intercity bus at the university main gate yesterday, protesting alleged harassment of a female friend by the bus supervisor.
The female student was harassed when she and one of her classmates, Mamunur Rashid, both students of the economics department, were travelling on the bus to RU from Tangail.
Mamun said the bus supervisor was making lewd comments at his friend. “As I protested, he [supervisor] slapped me,†he told The Daily Star.
So he called his friends and a group of 20-25 economics students intercepted the bus of Krishan Paribahan and started vandalising it. The driver, supervisor, and helper fled.
RU Proctor Chowdhury Mohammad Zakaria said he asked police to look into the incident.
The bus was taken to Motihar Police Station.
