9512 fowls culled in Ashuganj
Transportation banned in 10km area
Livestock officials yesterday banned movement of fowls to and from 10 kilometre area in Ashuganj after they culled 9512 fowls and eggs of four farms there Thursday and Friday nights.
According to Brahmanbaria district livestock department officials, broiler poultry birds of Ashuganj Poultry Farm at Khoriala village were dyeing for few days. But the farm owner concealed it to continue the business.
On Wednesday, 400 birds died at the farm. The news spread in the area, which dew the authorities' attention.
Ashuganj Upazila Livestock Department collected sample of dead birds and sent those to Dhaka for test.
On Thursday, test results received from Dhaka showed bid flu infection in the birds, officials said.
A team headed by district livestock officer Md. Shahidul Islam, culled all the fowls including domestic ones and destroyed 4500 eggs in Khoriala and nearby Khilala villages. Pigeons were also culled.
The officials declared the one kilometre area as 'severely infected area'.
A team from the livestock department is now spraying insecticide in the infected areas, which will continue for three months, they said.
