RU teachers demand execution of verdict soon
Speakers at a rally on Rajshahi University (RU) campus yesterday demanded that the government take necessary steps to execute the verdict of Prof S Taher Ahmed murder case soon.
Teachers, students and officials of Rajshahi University (RU) Geology and Mining Department held the rally marking the 7th death anniversary of Prof Taher.
Earlier around 10:00am, they took out a mourning procession on the campus.
On February 1, 2006, Prof Taher went missing and police recovered his body from a septic tank well behind his campus residence on February 3.
On May 22, 2008, a speedy trial tribunal in Rajshahi sentenced four people including the department's teacher Dr Mia Mohammad Mohiuddin to death for the murder.
The tribunal acquitted two including former RU Shibir president Mahbubul Alam Salehi from the murder charge.
Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, chairman of the department, also the dean of life and earth faculty; Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, student adviser of the university, among others, addressed the rally.
