Movement for Removal of Ruet VC
BCL 'forces' students to boycott classes
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) forced the general students at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) to abstain from classes and examinations yesterday to demand removal of the vice-chancellor.
The BCL leaders and activists asked the general students on Wednesday not to join academic activities and drove out students from a class of the civil engineering department, who defied their directives yesterday, said one of the students.
Denying the allegation, Ruet unit BCL convener Harun-ar-Rashid said the students did not join classes and exams, protesting snatchings on the campus.
Preferring anonymity, an administrative official told The Daily Star that the BCL men launched protests against VC Prof Sirajul Karim Chowdhury, as he refused to appoint their nominated candidates as teachers.
The VC said, "We will take stern action against those who threatened students not to join classes and exams." He said the pro-Awami League teachers and students were trying to create chaos on the campus as he did not listen to their undue demands.
