The High Court yesterday summoned the officers-in-charge (OCs) of Kamalganj and Sreemangal police stations in Moulvibazar to appear before it on February 14 on charge of delaying to record a rape case. The Daily Star published a report on February 10 saying that criminals raped the girl, 12, a tea garden worker, at a tea garden in Kamalganj on Friday night. On Saturday afternoon, her family members found her in the garden in an unconscious state and took her to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, according to the report. OC Nihar Ranjan Nath of Kamalganj and OC Mohammad Abdullah of Sreemangal have to explain before the HC on February 14 about their delay in recoding a case over the incident and whether any relevant evidence was damaged due to the delay, Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder told The Daily Star. Yesterday, in response to a petition filed by Hira Lal Sarker, an apprentice lawyer, the HC also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain why they should not be directed to take legal action against the criminals. Hira filed the petition after the publication of The Daily Star report. Meanwhile, the mother of the victim filed a case with Kamalganj police on Sunday against three people, including one Khokon Paul.
