Nation to protest violence against women tomorrow
The Bangladesh chapter of One Billion Rising (OBR), a global movement to end violence against women, is set for its nationwide uprising tomorrow, says a press release.
On the occasion, human chains will be formed from 1:00pm to 1:30pm in Dhaka and 66 districts in Bangladesh. Participants are requested to wear red clothes or badge.
V-day, the initiator of this worldwide movement, has called for "one billion" women and men to walk out, rise up and demand an end to violence against women.
The Dhaka human chain locations are Agargaon (in front of IDB); Asad Gate to Residential Model School; Asad Gate, Mohammadpur; Dhaka-Aricha Road (Gonoshasthaya Kendra-Jatiya Smriti Shoudha); Dhanmondi road 27 (corner); Dhanmondi Boys School to Dhanmondi Road 27; Gulshan 1 to 2 circle; Gulshan 1 to Gulshan Lake; Gulshan 1 to Shooting Club; Hatkhola, Kamalapur; Jatiya Press Club; Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban; Social Welfare Department, Agargaon; Ittefaq intersection to Tikatoli intersection, Hatkhola; Jatrabari, Zurain main road; Kakoli to Gulshan 2; Kamal Ataturk road in Banani; Kallayanpur bus stand; Mirpur-10 roundabout; Mirpur 1 centre; Mirpur 13 (in front of Hermann Gmeiner College); Mirpur 2 (in front of Sony Cinema Hall); Mirpur road to Asad Gate; Mohakhali; PC Culture Housing Society; Savar Upazila Complex; Jahangirnagar University; Shonkor to Jigatola bus stand, Shaat Masjid Road; Sonargaon intersection to Farmgate (main road); Supreme Court, Segunbagicha; Tongi, BSCIC, Shahid Smriti School; Transcom foods; Uttara; Uttarkhan; and Bhatara Thana-Badda Union Parishad (Notun Bazar Hussain Market).
A festival, "Uddomey Uttaroney Shotokoti", will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy tomorrow. The festival includes short panel discussions, "leave your message" graffiti wall, music, dance, theatrical performances, and a concert. Nemesis, Stone Free, Mehreen, Alif Alauddin, Warda Ashraf, Shayan, Krishnokoli, among others, will perform at the concert where entry is free for all.
