Arms recovered from possession of Sylhet Jubo League chief
Acting on his confession, law enforcers yesterday recovered three firearms and some ammunition from a ditch at the house of Sylhet district Awami Juba League chief and ward commissioner Jagadish Chandra Das.
They include one revolver with five bullets and two LGs with two cartridges.
Jagadish, during quizzing Saturday evening, admitted dumping of the firearms in the in the ditch of his house at Akhalia Neharipara in the city. Rab took Jagadish there and recovered the firearms.
Yesterday morning, Rab filed a case against him under the Arms Act and handed him over to Sylhet Kotwali Police.
Police produced Jagadish before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court yesterday afternoon. Magistrate Md. Rafiqul Alam sent him to jail hajat, rejecting his bail prayer.
Joint forces picked him up Saturday morning from the voter registration centre at Sylhet stadium.
Jagadish faces a number of allegations for extortion, land grabbing, hill cutting, vandalism and other crimes.
Jagodish had been in hiding since declaration of emergency.
In 1999, when Awami League was in power, police caught Jagadish in connection with the bomb blast that killed two young men while making bombs at the house of the then ruling party lawmaker Muhibur Rahman Manik at Chhatak upazila headquarters. But Jagadish was dropped from the charge sheet.
He was also arrested during the anti-crime drive Operation Clean Heart.
