Schoolgirls vow to fight corruption

It was different day at Chapainawabganj Government Girls' High School yesterday where over 600 students, in a unique oath-taking ceremony, vowed to uproot corruption unitedly for ensuring overall development in the country. Sachetan Nagarik Committee, a unit of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organised the oath-taking ceremony as part of its campaign to create awareness against corruption. Chapainawabganj Government Girls' High School headmistress Kabita Chand presided the oath-taking ceremony. Speakers at the function urged people from all walks of life, especially students and youths to come forward to uproot corruption, a barrier to economic prosperity. Widespread corruption is hindering development of the country, they said. Black money holders are also controlling politics sidelining veterans and devoted politicians, they said adding, corruption in politics leads to corruption in administration. Among others, district election officer Shamsul Alam, Sachetan Nagarik Committee assistant programme officer Iqbal Hossain and member Dr Nur-e-Akhter Jobeda Begum addressed.
