Try war criminals
Satkhira meeting demands
Speakers at view exchange meeting yesterday said the present caretaker government cannot ignore the demand for trial of war criminals as it is the demand of the people.
They called upon all to launch a movement to mobilise public opinion in favour of trial of the war criminals.
A preparatory body to convene a freedom fighters meeting organised the view exchange meeting at Satkhira Pourasava auditorium.
The meeting aims at establishing good governance by selecting honest, competent and enlightened people in the country, the organisers said.
This government arrested and punished many leaders of major political parties but Jamaat leaders have remained untouched although many of them were involved in war crimes, they said, adding that the government can try the war criminals as they committed crimes against the state.
They said widespread corruption and rivalry to capture power by the political leaders was responsible for declaration of emergency in the country.
The nation cannot return to a situation like that before January 11, they said, adding that those who want to save the country will have to fight corruption and at the same time keep prices within the capacity of common people.
Among others, freedom fighters Nayeem Jahangir, Rahmatullah, Matiar Rahman, advocate Enayet Ali, Khalilur Rahman and Principal Asit Kumar Majumdar addressed the meeting presided by freedom fighter former MLA and MCA Momtaz Uddin Ahmed.
