Swedish team visit reproductive health centre at MMCH
A Swedish team led by Jan Knutsson, Director General, Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden visited Reproductive Health Services Training and Education Programme (RHSTEP) centre at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Tuesday.
The RHSTEP started in 2000 and 21 centres are working in 18 districts of the country, RHSTEP Executive Director Quazi Suraya Sultana told the team during the visit.
She said Menstrual Regulation (MR) programmes should be expanded to facilitate easy excess to the clients.
The goal of RHSTEP is to contribute in improving the Sexual and Reproductive Health Status of women and adolescents and thus reduce the maternal mortality and morbidity in Bangladesh, project sources said.
Appreciating the activities of RHSTEP, Jan Knutsson made positive response on expanding the RHSTEP centres in the country.
The services rendered by RHSTEP through its centres are services for mother and children, MR, contraceptive services, vaccine and immunization for women and children, antenatal care, postnatal care, STD/HIV/HB, general health services for women and children, adolescent reproductive health, gender equity and empowerment of women and training programmes on MR for doctors.
Other members of Jan Knutsson's entourage were Wilhelm von Warnstedt, Parliament secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Stockholm, Ola Hallgren, Head of Development Cooperation and Britta Nordstorm, First Secretary, both Embassy of Sweden, Monica Malakar and Syed Khaled Ahsan, Senior Programme Officers of Swedish International Develop-ment Agency (SIDA).
