700 trucks of rice wait due to strike in India land port
Some 700 of rice-laden trucks waiting to start for Bangladesh remained stranded at Ghojadanga land port yesterday evening as the Indian labourers refused to unload the goods due to a conflict between two Indian labour organisations.
Besides, 30 trucks containing exported waste cotton that had been stranded at Ghojadanaga land port of India for the last five days, could not return to Bhomra land port of Bangladesh.
The Bangladeshi exporters as well as Indian importers have been incurring losses for not able to unload the goods exported to India, sources said.
The labour unrest at Ghojadanga land port ensued giving registration to a newly floated labour organisation by the Indian government recently, acting president of Bhomra C&F agents Ashrafuzzaman Ashu said referring to Kanti Kumar Das, president of Ghojadanga C&F Agents Associaition.
Workers of the lone organisation that was earlier registered by the Indian government at Ghojadanga has said they would not resume works until the registration of the newly floated oganisation is cancelled, he said.
