3 BNP men held for ‘extortion’
Ullapara police, in a drive conducted here yesterday, arrested three BNP men from their houses in connection with a case of toll collection.
The arrestees are BNP leader and Ullapara Pourasabha ward commissioner Golam Awlia and party activists Siddiswar Sutrodhar and Narayan Sutrodhar.
Another BNP activist Asaduzzaman Dulal lodged the case with Ullapara police station accusing 13 persons including former lawmaker M Akbar Ali and his wife Momena Ali on September 2 last year.
The complainant mentioned that M Akbar Ali had demanded Tk 10 lakh as toll from him following a land dispute during his tenure. On refusal to pay the toll, Akbar's cadres attack his family members, beat them indiscriminately, ransacked and looted valuables from his house, he said.
