26 PWs submit deposition in court
Three more prosecution witnesses (PWs) in five August 17 series bomb blasts cases gave statements before a court at Satkhira yesterday in presence of 11 out of 19 charge sheeted accused.
With them, a total of 26 PWs were examined by court till date.
Earlier, the court recorded statements of 23 other prosecution witnesses on different dates in February and March.
The cases in Satkhira are being tried over three years after the countrywide blasts by Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)) on August 17 in 2005.
Judge Mahbubul Alam of the Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court at Satkhira recorded the statements of three prosecution witnesses and fixed April 7 for next hearing of the cases.
The witnesses who testified yesterday are Satkhira Pourasava Commissioner Shafiquddowla Sagar, Nazrul Islam and Jamaat Ali.
Trial of the five August 17 blasts cases began with deposition of the complainants of the cases Sub-inspector (SI) Jasim Uddin, SI Abu Taher and SI Hazrat Ali of Sadar Police Station on February 14.
The charge sheeted accused Nasir uddin Dafadar, Monowar Hossain Ujjal, Maniruzzaman Munna, Nur Ali Member, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Gias Uddin, Mahbubur Rahman Liton, Billal Hossain, Asadul Haque, Ismail alias Habibur and Rakib Hasan alias Rusel alias Hafez Mahmud alias Mahmud were on the dock while five other charge-sheeted accused are absconding.
Following information from pickpocket Raswshan, the lone eyewitness of the bomb blast on the premises of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court at Satkhira, police arrested JMB operative Nasir Uddin Dafadar of village Bakal Islampur and his accomplices and consequently was able to detect JMB's involvement in the series bomb blasts across the country on August 17 in 2005.
The investigation officer (IO) of Satkhira blast cases, Assistant Superintendent of Police Munshi Atiquur Rahman of the Criminal Investigation Department submitted on April 4 in 2006 charge sheet against 19 people including executed JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, his deputy JMJB chief Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai and JMB military commander Ataur Rahman Sunny.
