'Bangladeshis now part of British society'
The Bangladesh community in the UK is playing a laudable role there and has made its way into the mainstream British society. The success of our new generation in different fields is appreciated, said members of a delegation now visiting Bangladesh.
They were addressing a press conference at the Liaison office of British High Commission in Sylhet yesterday.
Sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK, the 5-member team came Bangladesh on March 17 on a 4-day visit.
British-Bangladeshis are ready to contribute to further development of the education sector in Bangladesh, they said.
“We are now much more confident but many things are to be done here”, said Mahee Jalil, a member of the delegation.
Owner of an automobile group in the UK, Mahee is also chairman of a Bangla TV channel in the UK.
Barrister Akhlaq Chowdhury said there are initiatives in Britain to stop any sort of racial discrimination. The British authority as well as the community are sincere to achieve the goal, he said.
Other members of the delegation are Dr. Rupa Haque, a lecturer in Kingston University, Shelm Hossain, a successful entrepreneur in the UK and in Bangladesh and Konnie Huq, Cambridge University graduate.
The delegation joined a number of programmes at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) yesterday.
