Speakers say at reception to 4 freedom fighters in Rajshahi
Speakers at a reception accorded to four freedom fighters demanded trial of war criminals to establish rule of law in the country and fulfill the dreams of martyrs.
The Association of Develop-ment Agencies in Bangladesh (ADAB) accorded the reception and awarded 'Independence Day Award -2008' to the four freedom fighters.
The function was held at Rajshahi Public Library auditorium marking the Independence Day.
Former Rajshahi University vice-chancellor Prof Abdul Khalek was present as the chief guest while language movement veteran advocate Abdur Razzak, Abdul Hossain, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote general secretary Dr Sayed Shafiqul Alam, journalist Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Sammilito Nagorik Andolon convener principal Shafikur Rahman Badsha were special guests.
The recipients are Abdul Alim Biswas of Padmabil village in Sathia upazila in f Pabna; Narayan Chandra Murari of Batoli village in Godagari upazila in Rajshhai; Mizanul Haque of Huzrapur village in Chapainawabganag and Kalu Mia of Satha , village in Pabna district.
Prof Abdul Khalek handed over crests to the valiant freedom fighters.
The speakers said dreams of freedom fighters are yet to be materialised. No political government in the past took any step fort trial of war criminals. They blamed BNP for rehabilitating war criminals and collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces by making a coalition government.
They also urged the government to form a special tribunal to try war criminals.
War criminals should be socially boycotted and barred from taking part in the next parliamentary election, they said.
On the occasion, 'Muktijudher Upekhito Bir Jhodhara ' (neglected freedom fighters), a book written by Minar Monsur was launched.
ADAB Rajshahi chairperson SKL Lalon and Proshika divisional coordinator Saiduzzaman Shipon also spoke on the occasion.
