Hold UZ polls first
Tangail UP chairmen demand
Tangail unit of Bangladesh Union Parishad Oikya Jote yesterday urged the caretaker government to take steps for holding upazila elections before parliamentary elections.
At a press conference at Tangail Press Club, they also placed a 16-point suggestion. These include upgrading status of UP chairmen and members and allocation of 40 per cent of development budget to local governments.
The leaders said local governments can not undertake development projects because of fund crisis.
They also called upon all local government leaders to make their April 1 'grand rally' in Dhaka a success.
The press conference was addressed by among others, Jote's Tangail district convener Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Faruque, joint convener Shofiur Rahman Khan and some UP chairmen.
Over 50 chairmen of different UPs in Tangail attended the press conference.
