Freedom fighter Vanu Nesa leads a miserable life as her monthly allowance was stopped during the BNP-led alliance government. “I used to get Tk 1800 as freedom fighter's honorarium during Awami League period. It was stopped during BNP government” she told this correspondent during a visit to he cottage at Nandanpur village in Santhia upazila on Friday. “I am struggling to survive along with my family”, she said. Vanu Nesa, now 70, got love and honour but can not eat properly every day. She lives with her two sons. “It is hard for them (her two sons) to maintain their families. Whenever they can, they help me”, she said. She demanded re-introduction of her allowance. Vanu Nesa struggles for survival but her valiant role in the battlefield till inspires many in her area. She was bullet-hit while carrying bullets for freedom fighters during an encounter with Pakistani occupation forces in mid-December, 1971 at Jorgasa village. She fought along with male freedom fighters at bunkers and compelled the occupation troops to withdraw, she said while talking to this correspondent. She got the freedom fighter's honorarium during the AL government led by Sheikh Hasina, which was stopped by the BNP led alliance government. She was given 22 decimal khas land, on which she built het cottage. “I feel proud when people give me honour. People of my village and local government officials love me”. She said she, along with other women freedom fighters were accorded reception at Jahangir Nagar University and at Pabna Bonomali auditorium. Her photo was also published in newspapers earlier, but her life did not improve.
