100 hurt in nor'wester
At least 100 people were injured in a nor'wester that tore down 600 houses in 15 villages in Juri upazila in the district Thursday afternoon.
This correspondent during a visit to the area yesterday saw the affected people under the open sky. The injured people were admitted to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex.
The nor'wester killed about 40 cattle, battered Boro on vast areas and uprooted trees, snapping power lines, locals said.
The worst affected villages are Basirpur, Krishnanagar, jaifarnagar, Noyagram, Shimultola, Belagaon, Sunapur and north-Jangirai.
Juri Upazila Nirnahi Officer (UNO) Nazrul Islam Sarker said he sought money and CI Sheet from the district administration for relief to the affected people.
