RU controversial staff stage sit-in
Controversially appointed fourth-class employees of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday staged sit-in demonstrations in front of the campus residence of Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain demanding immediate regularisation of their jobs.
During their daylong demonstration, Prof Altaf Hossain could not come out of his residence.
At a rally, they urged the university authorities for immediate regularisation of their jobs and threatened to resist all types of appointments at the university until their jobs are regularised.
The agitating employees also urged the RU vice chancellor to include their 'job regularisation agenda' in today's Syndicate meeting.
The RU authorities appointed 544 third and fourth-class employees against 255 vacant posts allegedly in gross violation of the university rules in April 2004.
