2 Ruet students expelled, 11 others punished

The discipline committee of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) has expelled two students and gave 11 others punishment including demotion and temporary expulsion from halls for their alleged involvement in anti-discipline activities on Ruet campus. The students are accused of ransacking the provost's room of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, damaging a photocopy shop, assaulting Ruet staff and involvement in violence on the campus on several occasions, sources said. Ruet authorities recently sent letters to the concerned students, informing them of the decision. The two expelled students are Fazle Rabbi Rone, a 4th year student of electronic engineering department and Nafis Hossain Khan, a third year student of mechanical engineering department. The 11 students punished are Golam Rabbani, Mehedi Hassan, Robiul Alam, Ruhul Amin Mikut, Iqbal Hossain Rashel, Emdadul Haque, Shariful Islam Sumon, Sanchoy Proshad Shah, Abdullah Al-Mamun, Al-Amin and Milon Mia. When contacted, Ruet Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AFM Anwarul Haque, yesterday said after long investigation Ruet discipline committee took the action. Only Ruet academic council can reduce the punishment, he added.
