A truck driver with his family members including three children is passing days under the open sky, as students and teachers of a Qwami madrasa along with their accomplices burnt down his house on March 23. The victim family members are also facing threats of killing or abduction, said the driver, Sohrab Ali of Dwadpur village in Raiganj upazila. Following a dispute over the land of Sohrab's house, teachers and Managing Committee members of Faridpur Riajul-Ulum-Qwami Madrasa had been threatening Sohrab to evict him from the land, sources said. Students and teachers of the madrasa along with some unknown faces attacked the house on March 23 morning and set fire to the house after damaging the furniture and looting valuables from the house. The attackers also beat up the family members, causing injuries to five before police reached the spot. Sohrab lodged a case with Solonga Police Station accusing nine people including madrasa Superintendent Shihab Uddin and former UP chairman Ashraf Ali. Journalists of several national dailies and electronic media visiting the spot on Sunday found Sohrab and his family members including three children staying under the open sky. Abdur Razzak, Nazrul Islam, Abu Taher and Sohrab Hossain of the village said the armed attackers vandalised the house and looted valuables including gold ornaments, even rice and clothes before setting fire to it. When contacted, Solonga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Alam said they are trying to arrest the 'absconding' accused.
