BNP leader murdered, 2 sons critically hurt
A BNP leader was hacked to death and his two sons and two daughters-in-law were injured in an attack by miscreants at Patlashi village in Niguari union of Gagargoam upazila in the district in the early hours of yesterday.
Police and locals said, a gang of miscreants numbering 20 to 25 allegedly led by Kamrul alias Hathkata Kamrul entered into the house of Nurul Islam at about 2:15 am and forcibly dragged him out of his house.
They hacked him indiscriminately. Hearing his screams, other members of his family came and tried to save him. The miscreants swooped on them with sharp weapons and injured Nurul Haque's sons Swapon and Ripon and their wives Mursheda Begum and Mansura Begum critically.
Nurul Haque, former vice-president of Niguari Union BNP, died while being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Swapon was admitted to Pangu Hospital in Dhaka while Ripon, Mursheda and Mansura were admitted to DMCH.
Police suspected that the attack could be due to previous political enmity. Nurul Haque was also a candidate for the post of chairman of Niguari Union Parishad in the last election, said Dewan Lalon, Assistant Police Superintendent of Gafargoan Circle.
Sharif Uddin, another son of the victim, lodged a case with Gafargoan police station. Police have so far arrested two persons --Rashed, 22 and Sultan 24in this connection.
