Outlaw killed in police encounter
A top cadre of Gono Bahini (GB) was killed in a 'shootout' between police and his cohorts at Zagannathpur village in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga early yesterday.
Tipped-off, a team from Alamdanga police station cordoned a graveyard in the village at around 4:30am, where the outlaws led by Mahir were holding a secret meeting.
Police called upon the outlaws to surrender but they fired shots instead.
As police replied with shots, Mahir Uddin was killed. Police later found Mahir's body and three Shutter guns and nine bullets from the spot. Others fled away.
Mahir was a hardened cadre of GB and a close accomplice of its chief Azibor Rahman, police said.
Police said Mahir was involved in crimes including robbery, abduction and extortion. He is accused in some cases including three for murder, filed with different police stations in Chuadanga and Kushtia.
